About Manuel Calzada
MANUEL CALZADA is a Spanish-born and Australian qualified legal practitioner who practiced Natural Resources and Corporate law in Australia before joining the United Nations in 2000 with UNMIK, the UN Executive Authority Mission in Kosovo where he worked with UNMIK's Office of Legal Affairs, and the European Union Economic Development Pillar in charge of the legal administration of Publicly Owned Enterprises in Telecoms, Aviation, Energy generation 7 distribution, and Municipal enterprises. Since then, he has completed Missions for the EU in the Middle East, and has been Head of Legal Affairs for UNMIL, the UN DPKO Mission in Liberia, UNAMA the UN Political Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, and currently is the Chief Legal Officer with UNAMID, United Nations & African Union Mission in Darfur, Sudan with an annual budget of $1.2 billion and 15,000 uniformed military and police personnel serving the Mission.
Other than that, he is a reasonably quasi-normal human being who enjoys any sport involving a ball or a wheel, has a special interest in legal publishing, and the Spaniard in him lends him towards an appreciation of food and wines
